Connecting Inner Power with Global Change Revisited: Postulates for Change & Key Concepts

It has been 15 years since I wrote the first edition of this book. When Atlantic Publishing suggested republishing it, I assumed there would be many updates needed. After all, in these 15 years, I have worked to solve numerous problems faced by corporations using systems modeling and have also completed a PhD in Mathematics of Innovation in Complex Adaptive Systems. This involved extensive reading and developing a unique field of mathematics, and I wasn’t sure, considering all the new knowledge, whether the fractal model in this book would still be valid.

However, after spending months reviewing it, I realized that the theory, the detailed architectural building blocks, and the connections between layers of complexity — from the individual to corporations, markets, and the earth-system — were still very solid. There have been some minor revisions, and I have aimed to further generalize the book by removing specific examples that were perhaps more relevant when I first wrote it.

Looking back, I also want to mention something I may have been too shy to say a couple of decades ago. This book is bold because it not only calls out but also tries to model an element of depth and mystery that should permeate the system we live in. For example, early in the book, I introduce the idea of the earth becoming an ‘earth-sun’ and then refer to the ideal fractal for progress as the ‘sun-marked’ physical-vital-mental fractal. These and similar liberties are necessary to vastly expand the system to include such depth and mystery.

This book is not an easy read. But if it is approached with focus and enough time is given for the concepts to sink into the reader’s mind, it will undoubtedly offer a new perspective on the world.

New Postulates for Change

Many new postulates for change arise in this book. These include the following ideas:

• There are common building blocks that animate each level of organisation.
• Organization refers to an idea, a theory, a habit, an event, a circumstance, a person, a team, a corporation, a collectivity, a market, an economy, or our world; essentially anything whose structure, processes, and meaning are defined by the common building blocks.
• The dynamics of a particular organisation are entirely determined by which of these building blocks are active at that level of organisation.
• Like DNA, the stringing together of building-blocks in a particular sequence or with particular dominance determines the active dynamics of that level of organisation.
• There is only one particular sequence of stringing together building blocks that allows an organisation to progress sustainably.
• This particular sequence exists in all progressive organisations, regardless of their level of complexity, and forms the seed pattern from which the Fractal Ladder is derived as a fractal.
• When organisations adopt sequences other than the progressive fractal, they become part of a general fractal vortex that animates ordinary, or “as-usual,” life as opposed to progressive life.
• All sequences tend to repeat their raison d’être and way of being not only at their own levels, but also through their influence on other levels. This is what reinforces fractal reality.
• When a fractal for progress inevitably encounters forces or contrary fractals, a rite of passage is created by which deeper identity can emerge.
• The Fractal Ladder is a zone of possibility that causes the world-system to progress in the most sustainable way possible.
• The Fractal Ladder is the signature of a progressive, conscious and fully integrated world-system.
• The existence of the fractal of progress, regardless of the level of organisational complexity and formidable opposition from forces to the contrary, implies its reality or, even more, an essential and pervasive reality of power, presence, knowledge, and harmony.
• An opening to this essential reality of power, presence, knowledge and harmony is the most effective way for an organisation to complete its own fractal journey of progress.
• The existence of a Fractal Ladder and a personified Progress sets the stage for a vastly different set of dynamics with which one brings about change in organisations.

Key Concepts

This book covers a wide range of concepts. A vast number of them will be new and are related to the fractal theory being introduced here. Existing problems, dilemmas, and ways of seeing the world will be coupled with key elements of fractal theory, the Fractal Ladder, and the fractal vortex to introduce new perspectives on things.
